Weight: Tall and thin.
Distinguishing features: A large, 'Beak-like' nose, his greasy black hair, a constant scowl.
Clothing style: Billowing black robes.
Face Claim: Alan Rickman
Overall Description: A general description of Severus would include his sallow skin, black eyes, uneven yellow teeth, and greasy, shoulder length hair. His build is described as tall and thin, and appearing like an overgrown bat. The youthful Snape is described as having a stringy, pallid look, being round shouldered yet angular and having a twitchy walk that recalled a spider.
Personality: Severus is generally bitter, his past contributing greatly to this personality trait. Throughout his time at Hogwarts he was bullied by the widely known 'Marauders', and carried his hatred through for James Potter, to Harry Potter as well as Sirius Black and Remus Lupin. He has a shady sense surrounding him, and is not known to be the most friendly of wizards. Severus is portrayed as very self-assured and confident of his abilities, to a degree that Rickman described as "full of himself" Snape typically displays a very calm and collected demeanour, rarely at a loss for words or taken off guard. His temper, however, is sometimes short where Harry is concerned and positively flares when dealing with his erstwhile tormentor Sirius, or when accused of cowardice. His otherwise impassive and aloof attitude seems to stem from his belief that people who cannot control their emotions are weak, giving him a silent but powerful type of authority.
Likes: Making snide comments, being sarcastic, taking the post for Defence Against the Dark Arts.
Dislikes: Harry Potter, enemies from the past, those who claim he's a 'Coward'.
Strengths: Severus, even when young was a powerful potion-maker, resulting in him becoming a successful potions master, teaching the subject of Potions at Hogwarts until he progressed to taking the post of the Defence against the dark arts, the post many knew he desired. Severus is a powerful wizard in general terms. Throughout the series Severus has been shown as a powerful wizard, as well as an outstanding student whilst at Hogwarts. He specialises in Potion making and has a particular talent and passion for the Dark Arts. It has been stated by Sirius Black that Severus knew of more hexes and curses as a first-year than most seventh-years. He is particularly gifted in potion making, and added major improvements to his potions textbook as a student, which Harry Potter later came across. Severus portrayed a rare talent of creating his own spells, these included Levicorpus and Liberacorpus, and the more dangerous Sectumsempra.
Weaknesses: His past has to be the one and only weakness Severus has, for he conceals any other weaknesses incredibly well. The mention of being a coward is also a weakness, as is the mention of his nickname (Snivellus)
Secrets: Secretly being an Order member, working for Dumbledore rather than Voldemort all along.
Boggart: Unknown.
Patronus: Severus possesses the same patronus as Lily Potter, a doe.
Overall Personality: Severus is a secret hero throughout the series and behind the surface of bitterness, hatred and constant sarcasm there is a man who carried out an unthinkable task, yet remained loyal till the end. Bullied when he was young, this contributed to his cold and sharp manner towards almost anyone, but he remains calm and collected in general regardless of this fact. The adult Severus is shown as confident, and sure of himself and his capabilities, as well as being cunning and clever, as a Slytherin this comes as no surprise. He is intelligent, analytical and has a keen mind. He is immensely brave, which some are unaware of, classing him as a coward. Behind the bitter side Severus did in fact love, and showed loyalty on an admirable level.
Hometown: Spinner's End.
Father: Tobias Snape (A muggle, making him a half-blood)
Mother: Eileen Prince
History:
Severus first makes an appearance in HP and the Philosopher's stone, shortly after Harry Potter arrives at Hogwarts. He is the Potion Master of Hogwarts, even though he is widely rumoured to covet the Defence Against The Dark Arts post. Severus himself confirms the rumour in the Order of the Phoenix. Severus is known to be a malicious and sinister teacher, who makes frequent snide and disparaging remarks at Harry's expense. He rapidly becomes one of the main antagonists of the series, with an underlying menacing personality which many discuss, forming further rumours. Moving on to the Chamber of Secrets, Severus plays a minor role in the second of the books/films, assisting Gilderoy Lockheart in the short-lived Duelling club. During the Prisoner of Azkaban, Severus makes it clear that he suspects Remus Lupin has something to do with the escape of Sirius Black from Azkaban. This suspicion stems from the friendship of Lupin and Black while they were at Hogwarts, so he therefore makes the assumption of Remus having something to do with his escape. Severus attempts to apprehend Sirius, but he escapes along with the help of Harry. Severus retaliates to this by informing Dumbledore that Remus is a werewolf, forcing Remus to leave his post. Through the Goblet of Fire, Severus' role remains fairly much the same as the previous however; he is more vindictive than usual towards Harry Potter who is entered into the Triwizard Tournament without knowing. During the Order of the Phoenix, Severus' role is much more prominent, and with Voldemort having finally returned, he continues working as a triple agent for Dumbledore. During the Order of the Phoenix, Severus' true hatred for Sirius is increasingly obvious, as is Sirius' in return. The two are often seen exchanging snide remarks and comments, as well as glaring and regularly in fight-mode with one another. At one point a duel is almost begun, but is prevented by the entrance of Order members. Later in the book, Dumbledore has Severus teach Harry Occlumency. These sessions are made a challenge by the mutual hostility between them both, and a childhood memory of Severus' is revealed at a later stage, being seen by Harry.
The Half Blood Prince is the highlight of Severus' part in the series, as he is after all the Half Blood Prince. At the start he makes an unbreakable vow with Narcissa Malfoy, swearing that he will complete the task that has been asked of Draco to carry out, only if he cannot complete it himself. Snape claims to be working for Voldemort when questioned by Bellatrix Lestrange, and has claimed to be doing so since Voldemort's return. Severus takes the post of the Defence Against the Dark Arts professor, as Horace Slughorn returns out of retirement to teach Potions.
