Alice and Dumbledore

Alice arrived at the castle soon after she had recieved a letter from Professor Dumbledore. The grounds looked just the same and she remembered how much she missed lounging by the lake on a warm day. She looked up at the big castle,and started daydreaming about her years here. She missed her friends,she wondered what they were up to these days,and she hoped they were safe. She smiled at the memories remembering sneaking out late in these halls, and then she realized she was at the stairs to Dumbledore's office already. As she was going up there were several thoughts going through her head, "Was this what she thought this was about? What was she going to say? What was she going to do?" She reached the door,took a deep breath and knocked two times.

"Enter," called Albus Dumbledore from inside. He was writing, writing an owl to Elphias Doge, an old friend from his school years. He continued writing the letter until Alice entered which was taking an unusually long time. His quill was slowly running out of ink and Dumbledore had to kept refilling it magically, very soon he would require to buy more which annoyed him, since at these interesting times it was getting quite expensive to buy - but monetary value never exactly bothered Albus.

Alice walked into the office and walked towards his desk "Good afternoon professor,sorry I'm kinda late." She smiled at him and looked around the room a little bit,there were so many odd things in there,some she recognized and some she didn't.

As Alice entered he smiled, "Not a problem at all... Not at all. Now, I received air of your expressed wish to join the Order Of The Phoenix," he said quite simply and folded the letter he was writing and moved it aside. "I should, naturally, explain the risks involved to you before I let you re-express any wishes to me. The risks are simple; you risk death, as many Order Members have been put through, you risk torcher, which happened to Alice & Frank Longbottom and you will risk losing your own personal time, which you may not wish to lose. I will think no less of you if after you have heard that, you wish to turn around and leave," he said, in an attempt to reduce pressure.

Alice nodded as he said this. She had already known all of this,but she was ready."I understand all of that sir,and I'm willing to risk it. I'm not the kind to back down from things once my minds made up," She grinned."I have always put my friends before myself,and as for time,I usually have plenty of that. I know I can do this Professor."

"If you do join the Order you will not have plenty of it, Alice," he said all-to-honestly. "You will be placed in situations where you may have to go without food for several days - although I admit that is a little extreme. You must be ready for interesting awe-stricking but terrifying things all at once. If you wish to do this, I have no right to prevent you from doing so. You got an Outstanding in Charms, Defence and the Dark Art and Potions, for your O.W.L. and Outstanding for Charms and Defence Against the Dark Arts and Exceeds Expectations for Potions. I find this exceedingly well, you could do anything else you wanted to if you wished it. Yet, you join the Order with good virtues. If you say yes one more time, I will allow you to join right at this moment, or I offer you another option; sleep on it."

Alice thought about his words for a few minutes. She had already thought about this before she came here and she was quite sure this was what she wanted to do.She thought of herself as brave,but the brave things she always did were the things to always somehow make her friends laugh or smile in some way. She wasn't afraid of much,and she had the brains,but she'd never really been in a situation before."Well Professor,what I meant was,I have plenty of time that I would be willing to put in for the Order. And I've thought about this a lot lately,and I believe that this is the right thing for me." and her words felt right to her.

"Then I shall not stop you," he said. He got up and walked around to her and held out his hand. "Welcome, Alice, to the Order of the Phoenix," he said calmly, smiling at her. He shook her hand and then walked back around to his desk and took a small piece of parchment. He wrote a few words with his own slender, italics handwriting on the parchment and walked back around to her. "Take this, open it up and read it but do not say it aloud and then give me the paper back," he said.

As Alice opened the paper, the words stood out boldly on the blank parchment. All of the portraits around the room whispered and tried to keep a closer eye on the parchment, it was written carefully enough to allow only Alice to read its contents. On the writing, it revealed the Headquarters of the Order of the Phoenix to her, as only Albus Dumbledore could reveal the location since he was the Secret-Keeper (due to the Fidelius Charm).

The writing said:

The Headquarts of the Order of the Phoenix can be found, at Number 12, Grimmauld Place.

Alice smiled and shook his hand and then took the paper. She read it twice memorizing it,and then handed it back to him as he told her to. "Thank you Professor. Whatever you need me to do just let me know,and I'll do my best."

"That location can be found by asking any Order members where. And then you can feel free to go in and out as you please," said Albus simply. "And no need to call me Professor any longer, Alice. Call me Albus, or 'Mr. Dingbat', the decision is yours!" he said chuckling to himself. "Dingbat, that is what Rita Skeeter called me in an article she wrote about me... She is enchantingly nasty. Banned from Hogwarts' Grounds but she has her ways of getting in," Dumbledore said, thinking for a few seconds. He took the piece of paper, held it in the palm of his hand where it burst into flames, turning into charcoal. He mumbled something and it disappeared completely.

Alice laughed "There's no reason to call you Dingbat sir,nor is there any reason to read the prophet much these days anymore,but I think I can manage calling you Albus,although Professor may slip from time to time." She watched him burn the paper and it disappear."Well thank you Albus,I guess I should get going. I'll see you again soon I hope." She shook his hand and walked back out the way she came.

"Goodbye Alice, and welcome to the Order of the Phoenix," he said. "I hope we've found a productive member with you," he said as she walked out of the room. Albus smiled to himself and took the letter he had put to the side of the desk. He resumed writing it and smiled to himself. Twitching his wand and the Quill began writing itself. He
